Holy Other is a British electronic musician and producer originally from Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. He is best known for his debut album Held. Holy Other made his debut in 2010 with the release of a 7" single, We Over, on Transparent Records. Shortly after he signed to Tri Angle (record label) and released his debut EP, With U, in 2011. With U was highly acclaimed by music critics, many applauding its unique blend of R&B, UK Garage, and House Music.

Held is a love album, a modern love album. Not love as aspirational fantasy but lived love, contradictory love- the real love that stifles as much as it soothes. In that, it has a kinship with a generation of artists, including How to Dress Well, the xx, and Mount Kimbie, who reach to articulate love's many aspects in new ways. The Burial-recalling distorted vocal elements Holy Other teased into being on With U are again deployed here, distilled to their base energy and impulse

Holy Other - Held You could probably guess what Holy Other's debut album sounds like without ever hearing it. That's not a bad thing. It speaks to both the surprising solidity of the Manchester artist's style and the general ubiquity of this sort of eyes-down, funereal fare. But last year's With U EP managed to stick out like a throbbing thumb amidst all the soft focus dreck and Held accomplishes the same trick in 2012. His first album-length effort isn't a drastic turnaround nor even that great of a leap forward, but it is a whole lot more persuasive, mirroring label.

Holy Other’s debut album Held is being released on August 27th. This is the second cut from the release that TriAngle Records have put up on their soundcloud and nether have planted any seeds of doubt in my mind that the album won’t be great. The album is again, one of many that are set for release this year that I’m extremely hyped up for. When all these albums come out I’ll have to refrain from making a MyEDOM post everyday.
