But now that he’s moved past that era, he sees these movements for what they really are: a conformist, mainstream, practically meaningless trend. He also makes a slight jab at Gary Numan’s successful single Cars (he was seen by many as a leader in New Romanticism), by putting beep-beep in the chorus. Written By David Bowie.

David Bowie is the self-titled debut studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 1 June 1967, on Deram Records. Its style and content bears little overt resemblance to the type of music that he was later known for, such as the folk rock influenced "Space Oddity" or the glam rock of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

David Bowie was Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, The Thin White Duke. A dapper gentleman and a stylish freak. During his life, he was as much as fashion innovator as a musical vanguard. Fashion" is a track from David Bowie's 1980 album Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) It was ranked as the 8th best single of 1980 by the NME magazine. According to co-producer Tony Visconti, "Fashion" was the last song completed in the Scary Monsters sessions, its bassline and some of the melody taking inspiration from Bowie's 1975 hit "Golden Years". Guest guitarist Robert Fripp contributed a series of harsh, mechanical riffs to complement the band's funk/reggae arrangement.
