David Holmes - Holy Pictures Album Lyrics.
Complete your David Holmes collection. Ten years later, I keep coming back to this record. One of the few LP's that I dig in and listen to all ten songs every time; not a single track wasted. It's a mix between Eno's mid-period and the best of MBV, and a pinch of Dusseldorf-flavored Kraut. The soundtrack leanings are there too. Basically, it's a perfect pop record. There's hate in your heart if you don't dig this.

After 13 years of smashing imaginary soundtracks like This Film's Crap Let's Slash the Seats, Let's Get Killed, Bow Down to the Exit Sign, and real ones for Ocean's Eleven, Out of Sight, and The Game; a pair of mix albums, the fantastic Cherrystones collection, et a. he's earned enough cred with the biz and the punters to. be able to squander it if he wishes to. The Holy Pictures is that gamble.
David Holmes (born 14 February 1969) is an electronic musician and composer from Northern Ireland. Holmes began DJ-ing in Belfast from the age of 15. His first DJ appearance was at the Abercorn Mod Club. His first hit was the 1992 track "De Niro" as the Disco Evangelists with Ashley Beedle and Lindsay Edwards (who later joined Tin Tin Out). In the early to mid-1990s he ran two club nights in the Belfast Art College known as Sugar Sweet and Shake Yer Brain.
The Holy Pictures (2008). Album by David Holmes.
Though intended as a tribute to his Belfast roots, Holmes’s fourth solo album so often features the fashionable motorik beat of Seventies German rock that one wonders if he grew up near an autobahn. Yet this evocative collection explores successfully how music sparks the imagination, ranging from pumping single Heard Wonders and the brisk title track to the blank solo piano of The Ballad of Sarah and Jack.
The Holy Pictures is an album whose incubation has lasted almost the entire length of Holmes’ career. To cut straight to Holmes’ own words, The story of this album really began on the 4th of August 1996, when my mother, Sarah Holmes, passed away. I had always wanted to make a record about my life in Belfast and all the things attached to that – family, friends, loss, love and starting a family of my own. All the stuff that shapes the person you become. As with everything else David Holmes turns his hand to, this is an entertaining, and sometimes surprising, listen – it might be his best effort yet Line Of Best Fit – 78/100, 2008.
David Holmes' music has always told the listener more about his impeccable record collection than about the man himself.
