As I was walking down the street one day A man came up to me and asked me what the time was that was on my watch, yeah And I said Does anybody really know what time it is I don't Does anybody really care care If so I can't imagine why about time We've all got time enough to. cry Oh no, no And I was walking down the street one day A pretty lady looked at me and said her diamond watch had stopped cold dead And I said Does anybody really know what time it is I don't Does anybody really care care If so I can't imagine why about time We've all got time enough t. past the next step Don't have to think past the last mile Have no time to look around Just run around, run around and think why Does anybody really know what time it is I don't Does anybody really care care If so I can't imagine why about time We've all got time enough to die Oh no, no.

Three other tracks from the album also made the Top 100 chart; "Questions 67 & 68" { then when re-released in 1971}, "Beginnings" { and "I'm A Man" {.Martin from Fresno, CaIt always calms me down whenever I get in a hurry. That song is a reminder not to worry about the time but to focus on relationships. Robert from Houston, TxThe talking at the end of the song is Robert in the background. Got on a CTA bus asked if anyone knew what time it was, a guy laughed and asked me if anyone cares, he told me he wrote a song called that, and said it was good, sang some right then and there but i reallycould not hear i. .a woman turned around and asked him to stop singing, he told her someday yoiu. will have to pay to hear it.

According to Robert Lamm, "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" was the first song recorded for their debut album. The song was not released as a single until two tracks from the band's second album, "Make Me Smile" and "25 or 6 to 4", had become hits. It became the band's third straight Top 10 single, peaking at No. 7 in the . Because the song straddled years in its chart run, it is not ranked on the major . A spoken verse by Lamm is mixed into the sung final verse of the album version. The single version does not include the "free form" intro, and was originally mixed and issued in mono.
