Considering his talent, trombonist Trummy Young led surprisingly few sessions throughout his career. Some lesser-known outings during 1944-46 and five songs in 1955 were all that preceded this obscure 1975 LP (which was followed by a final effort in 1979). Heard in Hawaii where he settled after leaving Louis Armstrong in 1964, Young is backed by a trombone section on "Margie" and "Mood Indigo"; a few songs use strings, and background vocalists pop up harmlessly in a few instances. Young, who sings some of the tunes, still sounded in his musical prime in the mid-1970s.

TRUMMY YOUNG is a swing music artist. Trummy Young was one of the finest trombonists to emerge during the swing era and, even though he was never really a star or a bandleader himself, he did have one hit with his version of "Margie," which he played and sang with Jimmy Lunceford's Orchestra. Growing up in Washington, Young was originally a trumpeter, but by the time he debuted in 1928 he had switched to trombone. TRUMMY YOUNG albums, top albums. A Man and His Horn Swing 1975.
Young Man with a Horn (BLP 5013) is the second studio album of Miles Davis, released as a 10-inch mono LP recorded and released by the Blue Note label in 1952. The album title is presumably a reference to the 1950 film Young Man with a Horn. It was Davis' only official album recorded or released that year, at a time in his career while he was struggling with heroin addiction. This was the first of three 10"LPs recorded by Davis for Blue Note in the early 1950s
Trummy Young was the very first person I ever interviewed. For a teenager who knew his music and loved the bands he performed with during his career, I was in heaven. Talking to Trummy was a very important moment in my life. I felt ten feet tall that this famous musician was taking time to answer my questions.
Travelin' Light (Shirley Horn album). Travelin' Light is a 1965 studio album by Shirley Horn. Not all of the material is equally strong and none of the very concise dozen performances clocks in at even three minutes, so this is not an essential session. But Shirley Horn fans and completists will want the generally enjoyable vocal date.
