Francesco De Gregori OMRI (born 4 April 1951) is an Italian singer-songwriter. He is popularly known as "Il Principe dei cantautori" ("The Prince of the singer-songwriters"), a nickname referring to the elegance of his lyrics. He is often referred as singer-songwriter and poet, although he prefers to be identified simply as "artist".

Francesco De Gregori came back with a vengeance from a self-imposed retirement with his outstanding 1978 album De Gregori. He immediately followed with a successful collaboration with friend and fellow pop star Lucio Dalla that extended over the hit single "Ma Come Fanno i Marinai" and a high-profile tour, and recorded the excellent live album Banana Republic.
