The enormity of the aural experimentation is extraordinary. With renowned sound designer Alan Splet, Lynch developed any technique he could conjure up - from recording with pieces of glass tubing, pneumatic engines, or water-based pieces of machinery - to produce sounds never heard before (or since) in any medium.

Lynch's first featured release was the soundtrack to his 1977 debut feature film Eraserhead, which was released on . Records and Alternative Tentacles in 1982; he recorded the album with sound designer Alan Splet and co-wrote the song "In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)". In the late 1980s and early 1990s Lynch produced  . David Lynch's Inland Empire: Soundtrack. Released: September 11, 2007 (. Labels: David Lynch Music Company (002).

Picked a copy up at a local record shop. Bit pricey at $60.00 canadian but the packaging, additions and the lp are wonderful. Excellent pressing.

So I managed to get a new copy for relatively cheap ($50), and unfortunately, the mail service abused the package. Can't exactly do a proper evaluation with the contents from that distraction. But I CAN talk about the pressing of both the 12'' LP and 7'' LP, which are thankfully unscathed. The pressing is pretty good. It's largely quiet on Side A, which is thankful. Side B, not so much; I do hear pops in places, but not in the most vital sound cues, at least. I would love to have a near-perfect press for what I spent, but it could've been much worse. Same could be said for the 7'' single. Packaging-wise, I don't like the glossy material made for both outer and inner jackets; I prefer matte just to avoid fingerprints. But the booklet and prints look nice, even though I have to be reminded of the damage they carry. I'm just happy to own a copy of this immaculate ambient soundtrack to one of the most influential surreal films in history.
