Back in Black is the seventh studio album by Australian rock band AC/DC. It was released on 25 July 1980 by Albert Productions and Atlantic Records. It is the band's first album to feature vocalist Brian Johnson, following the death of previous vocalist Bon Scott. After the commercial breakthrough of their 1979 album Highway to Hell, AC/DC was planning to record a follow-up, but in February 1980, Scott died from alcohol poisoning after a drinking binge.

The best AC/DC album! Listen to this and Back in Black song for song. Sadly the last album before Bon Scott's death, "Highway to Hell" lifted AC/DC's popularity largely. I believe "Highway to Hell" is the signature song of the band and certainly their most popular, but "Back in Black" is probably better. Another notable song from the album is, "If You Want Blood (You Got It). "I was fortunate enough to see two Highway to Hell tour shows within a year of Bon's death. Third behind Back in Black and Highway to Hell. I have AC/DC 1990 album taken from forth coming album "Razors Edge" that has Thunderstruck on one side and Fire Your Guns on other with photos made into vinyl have not been able to find one like it anywhere. Great album! The Razors Edge is a pretty good album. It didn't go to the extreme commercially and critically, but it has some good songs.

The first sound on Back in Black is the deep, ominous drone of church bells - or "Hell's Bells," as it were, opening the album and AC/DC's next era with a fanfare while ringing a fond farewell to Bon Scott, their late lead singer who partied himself straight to hell. But this implies that Back in Black is some kind of tribute to Scott, which may be true on a superficial level - black is a funeral cover, hell's bells certainly signify death - but this isn't filled with mournful songs about the departed

Critics are fond of saying that every AC/DC record sounds the same, but the following list of AC/DC Albums Ranked Worst to Best shows otherwise. There's the absolute raunch of 1976's Bon Scott-led Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, but also 1990's sleek Brian Johnson-sung The Razors Edge – courtesy of Bruce Fairbarn’s patented production style. But Angus Young and company have kept going, evolving through a series of recordings that were seen as comebacks, including 2014's Rock or Bust, Black Ice, 1988's Blow Up Your Video and 1980's much-heralded Back in Black, Johnson's debut after Scott's sudden passing. AC/DC's catalog boasts early triumphs like 1975's High Voltage and . both of them as raw and flinty as anything in rock. They continued to tweak their sound, though, during sessions helmed by Mutt Lange (the aforementioned Highway to Hell) and Rick Rubin (1995's Ballbreaker).
