I enjoy the work of both Michael Hoenig and Manuel Göttsching. For my money, this is the finest hour (or the finest 48 minutes at least) for both men. It's amazing to think that this sat in the vaults for 20 years without being released. Sadly, it seems rather hard to find these days.

Early Water was composed and performed in Berlin, autumn 1976. Digitally restored and digitally remastered in Los Angeles.

Early Water by Michael Hoenig and Manuel Gottsching, such a beautiful disc. I bought this seven months ago and it was never regretted. If ever available in vinyl, I'm in for another copy. In one word, this lone track instrumental is "addictive"! I find myself pressing repeat on the CD player and I never mind hearing it again and again. Great when I work. It keeps me going and I can think, without going to sleep. Perfect for all occasions as background music, parties included.Back in the mid-80s I used to listen to New Jersey's radio broadcasting of WFMU Synthetic Pleasure and Richard played some of Hoenig/Gottsching Ashra materiel. He never introduced this one probably because it wasn't available to him. Either that or maybe it'd take up a half of the limited 3-hour program time. Aside from Yanni pieces, I'm sure Richard would've liked this one too. Four decades later, we still miss you, Richard. The YouTube sampling is not enough. You'd have to hear it on your audio system. At 48 minutes long, it'll seem long-lasting at first. But that's a good thing because you'll wish it were longer!

It's amazing to think that this sat in the vaults for 20 years without being released. Sadly, it seems rather hard to find these days. This is a single track of meditative Berlin School electronics with Göttsching's subtle wah-wah guitar soloing delicately on top. You can let it simmer in the background or focus on the shifting patterns of rhythms in the music. It may make you fall asleep if you do, but that's not a bad thing in my book. This makes Göttsching's far more legendary E2-E4 album sound trite by comparison. Early Water is highly recommended if you can find it.
