Karajan: Beethoven Symphonies (1963) is a set of studio recordings made in 1961 and 1962 by the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Herbert von Karajan. Furtwangler Archives. The series of concerts given at the end of September 1947 by Menuhin and Furtwängler with the Berlin Philharmonic were an important event, and even a political statement. The ban on Furtwängler's post-war conducting activities in Germany had recently been lifted after months of bureaucratic procrastination (the ban HAD been lifted in Austria earlier, and he had also given concerts in Italy), and on May 25 of the same year the German conductor was able to step back onto the podium in Berlin, with his Berlin Philharmonic, in a.

Shameless self-promotion - Karajan second SMP. Tom Dent wrote (April 11, 2005): Just to say that I am currently selling an LP copy of Karajan's SECOND St Matthew Passion recording (1972) with the Berlin Phil. Wiener Singverein, Janowitz, . udwig, Schreier, Laubenthal, Fischer-Dieskau, Berry and Diakov. DG 4LPs, near mint condition, full booklet. I don't like this recording, except for the soprano and alto arias, and be warned that the sound quality of DG in the 1970s is debatable
