Pavane pour une infante défunte (Pavane for a Deceased Infanta) is a piece for solo piano by French composer Maurice Ravel. The piece was composed in 1899 while Ravel was studying composition at the Conservatoire de Paris under Gabriel Fauré. Ravel also published an orchestrated version of the Pavane in 1910, including scores for two flutes, an oboe, two clarinets (in B♭), two bassoons, two horns, harp, and strings. A typical performance of the piece lasts between six and seven minutes.

Description by Blair Johnston. Ravel's Pavane pour une infante défunte (Pavane for a Dead Princess), composed in 1899, was the second of the composer's piano works to see publication. Here is no adult weeping for a dead child, but in essence a gentle, nostalgic celebration of the sweet innocence of childhood on the tragic occasion of its loss.

Maurice Ravel was only 24 when his piano solo "Pavane Pour une Infante Defunte," which translated means Pavane for a dead princess, became the rage of the drawing rooms and salons of Paris in 1899, but the work already held the unmistakable stamp of his style. Jerry Brubaker presents this lovely work in a Concert band setting with all of the lush melodies and harmonies of the original work but with simplified ranges and a comfortable key.
