Spunk is a bootleg demo album by the English punk rock band The Sex Pistols. It was originally released in the United Kingdom during September or October 1977. The album comprises studio demos and talking recorded with Dave Goodman during 1976 and early 1977, while original bass player Glen Matlock was still a member of the band. Most of the songs would later be re-recorded and officially released on the group's album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols.

Some Sex Pistols fans concur with McLaren – and producer Goodman – that the raw versions of the songs on Spunk are superior to the officially released ones, particularly since Spunk approximates a faithful reproduction of the original Sex Pistols line-up's live sound. The album also features the bass-lines of Glen Matlock, which were not reproduced when guitarist Steve Jones took over bass duties for the recording of Never Mind the Bollocks. Spunk is therefore often cited as the Sex Pistols' de facto alternative debut album. Several songs were presented with incorrect titles (actual titles noted in parentheses below).

Spunk is a bootleg demo album by the English punk rock band The Sex Pistols. The alternative debut album. Pictures, videos, biodata, and files relating to Spunk (Sex Pistols bootleg album) are also acceptable encyclopedic sources.

The importance of the Sex Pistols- as a symbol, as a lightning rod, as a flashpoint- cannot be overstated. It transcends the songs they performed, the genre they epitomized, the lifestyle they sold to an entire generation. But, of course, there's still the music to consider. As for the actual Spunk tracks, McLaren has publicly expressed a preference for these demos over the more polished Bollocks. He claims they give the listener a better sense of what the band was like live. Given that he's rumored to have played part in releasing this bootleg back in 1977, however, his opinion might be slightly suspect.

The Sex Pistols were the n pop creations of the punk years. Much as they are touted by populist historians as the progenitors of the British Punk movement, they came second, third or last in every category. The Damned beat them to virtually everything and sounded better, UK Subs had better punk credentials and there weren't any punk bands that sold out as completely as the Sex Pistols, not even the Clash  . Spunk on the other hand was raw, featured the classic line-up of Lydon, Matlock, Cook and Jones and had the Sex Pistols sounding like a band with energy, talent and some great great songs. They had something to say and knew how to say it.

The one with black label ,GD 002 matrix, was the ORIGINAL issue of the Spunk Demos WITH the 2 extra tracks-this was meant to be the 'NO FUTURE UK...'issue and came out with the proper sleeve in various colours etc.BUT just to mess up some early sleeves in wrap round white and other colours were put round the ordinary SPUNK LP without the extra tracks!A small amount of Green sleeves ,followed by the main lots in yellow rectified that!

I am not disputing your claim about it being a reissue, but when I bought it in the Spring of 1978, in Cleveland, Ohio, it was in a plain white jacket, but with a "Made In England" hand stamp in the upper right corner. Plain black labels inside. No track listing.
