Total Devo is the seventh studio album by the American new wave band Devo. Their first album for Enigma Records, it was originally released in May 1988, four years after their previous album, Shout. The album was recorded between 1986 and 1988, with the basic tracks recorded at Devo studios, in Marina del Rey, and the additional tracks at Master Control, in Burbank, California.

Given the absence of Devo between "Shout" and "Total Devo", with new record label as well, there would obviously be some stylistical changes. but there are some good tracks on this album. Baby Doll" really should have been the single instead of "Disco Dancer" for having a catchier and trendsetting beat while being mainstream enough with the lyrics to reel in audiences.

Devo is a band that has seen the highest highs and the lowest lows - recently, mostly the latter. Much of this attempted comeback album seems to be a desperate SOS from main writer Mark Mothersbaugh. In Agitated, he mourns the transience of fame: I was picked in a random way/To be a singing dancing fool/And im agitated/In this place going less than great. In Disco Dancer, he sings, In a world thats turned unkind/I see whats going on behind my back. The kicker is that the bitterness so plainly described in the lyrics is camouflaged in inane arrangements. Maybe the members of Devo are mocking the system that built them up and then knocked them down. No, that’s all wrong.
