Comprised of highlights from their first two Australian albums - 1975's TNT and its 1976 follow-up, also entitled High Voltage - the album has every single one of AC/DC's archetypes. There are songs about rock & roll, slow sleazy blues, high-voltage boogie, double entendres so obvious they qualify as single entendres and, of course, the monster riffs of Angus Young, so big and bold they bruise the listener upon contact

Released in ’76, High Voltage was AC/DC’s first international album, introducing the world to their electrifying brand of rock. It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock ‘n’ roll’, lead singer Bon Scott proclaimed in the album’s opening song. And a long way it was indeed, but AC/DC got to there. They didn’t do it by being amazing as musicians. On High Voltage, the band simply plays about being in a rock ‘n roll band, something which, as we all know, they have never ceased to do. Scott is already throwing out his typical lyrical wit: ‘I hear it pays well’, he sings about his profession in Rock ‘n’ Roll Singer, but the simple shout of ‘high voltage rock ‘n roll!’ on the title track is just as effective. Otherwise, we are entertained with more AC/DC traditions that were there since the start: self-empowering anthems (Live Wire, . and their infamous sexual innuendos (The Jack, Little Lover).

AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, in 1975. Membership remained stable until bassist Cliff Williams replaced Mark Evans in 1977. In 1979, the band recorded their highly successful album Highway to Hell. Lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980, after a night of heavy alcohol consumption. The group briefly considered disbanding, but soon ex-Geordie singer Brian Johnson was selected as Scott's replacement. Later that year, the band released their best selling album, Back in Black. AC/DC are an Australian hard rock band formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. Although the band are considered pioneers of heavy metal, its members have always classified their music as "rock 'n' roll". AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album, High Voltage, in 1975.
